Helen Tyson Middle School.
Wednesday.
Today, I had a new experience when the class start because, I can knew about the pleadge of the allegiance what the students repeated after the principal..
After that, the teacher started the class saying to her students look for a computer and read a new story for fifteen minutes. The students shared among themselves everything they understood about reading. They talked about the title of the reading, characters, where it happened and what was the outcome.I realized that starting the class with a reading motivates them to have a topic to speak and practice the English language with their classmates.
Well, ... That's interesting....
ReplyDeleteSo, something to know about the "Pledge of Allegiance": I never say it. When I taught in a school that asked students to recite the pledge, I always stood out of respect. However, I never say the pledge because I believe, as a Christian, it is inappropriate to pledge allegiance to anyone or anything except God/Jesus. And actually, for that reason, in the U.S. schools can ask students to recite the pledge, but it is illegal to force students to say it.
You mention some great observations about the Ss' reading. In addition to giving them a topic to talk about, it also makes the reading more meaningful. That is, they are able to share their own experience with the book, which then makes it a shared experience.
